Nininger's Rock Box

Vintage wooden crate from the Nininger Estate. This was obtained many years ago from Margaret Nininger Huss. Margaret was selling off the estate which included all of her father's (H.H. Nininger) and husband's (Glen Huss) stuff. This was the same time we saw the printing press and other personal items from H.H. hit the market. Some time down the road well known meteorite collector Fred Olsen purchased it. In early 2015 Olsen sold the box to Edwin Thompson who I obtained it from.

Another well known Fred, this time Hall, is able to elaborate as he purchased three of these at the time of the sale:

Margaret's two daughters and their husbands ran the estate sale (her son had already headed back to Hawaii). There were five of the Nininger crates in the garage, where they had been stored for many years. I offered to purchase all five, but one of the daughters was saving two of the crates for two of Glenn & Margaret's friends. So I purchased three crates. I sold one in Tucson to a friend meteorite collector, the crate that you have is not his, and I still have and cherish the other two. If I remember correctly, the crates were used to ship iron meteorites from Mexico to Nininger's home.
