Gujba
CB-a Chondrite
Fell April 3, 1984
Yobe, Nigeria

A conical meteorite fell in a corn field near the village of Bogga Dingare after a bright fireball was witnessed moving west to east and an explosion was heard. The local people hammered the meteorite into many pieces and most of the material was dispersed. The original mass is unknown, although second hand reports indicate that it had a mass of ~100 kg.

Gujba is a primitive, polymict, chondritic breccia, and is the first fall among the bencubbinite group.

The origin of Bencubbinites remains an enigma. It has been argued by some that they are highly primitive nebular materials that were condensed from solar gases while others support an impact theory on a CR parent body that vaporized and resolidified.
